Starting with injuries, we didn’t see Julio Jones (knee), Michael Thomas (foot), Jarvis Landry (ankle), and Jahan Dotson (hamstring) last week, as those pass-catchers were ruled out before kickoff. Elijah Moore (personal) also didn’t play, so that’s a situation to watch, too. Unfortunately, we saw DK Metcalf (knee), Allen Lazard (shoulder), and Amon-Ra St. Brown (concussion) go down with injuries on Sunday, forcing their fellow WRs to step up. As news breaks surrounding these banged-up WRs, we’ll adjust our rankings accordingly.
Transitioning to tough matchups, Darnell Mooney (@ Cowboys), Allen Robinson (vs. 49ers), Devin Duvernay (@ Buccaneers), Robbie Anderson (@ Vikings), Allen Robinson (vs. 49ers), George Pickens and Chase Claypool (@ Eagles), Garrett Wilson (@ Patriots), Romeo Doubs (@ Bills), and Zay Jones (vs. Broncos) are WRs worth avoiding, provided you have better replacement options. Some have the potential for negative game scripts, forcing their respective offenses to employ more pass-heavy approaches, but with inconsistent targets, it’s tough to make a case to start any of these wide receivers even in 12-team leagues, especially in PPR formats. Jones might be the one exception, as he has a similar outlook to Courtland Sutton (@ Jaguars), who’s likely on a lot of “sit” lists.
WEEK 8 PPR RANKINGSQBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers
Conversely, fringe WRs who are worthy of starting spots in shallower leagues include Hunter Renfrow (@ Saints), Josh Reynolds (vs. Dolphins), Tyler Boyd (@ Browns), Alec Pierce and Parris Campbell (vs. Commanders), and Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson (@ Seahawks). All see steady targets, giving them solid PPR floors, and all have favorable matchups this week. Drake London (vs. Panthers), D.J. Moore (@ Falcons), and Adam Thielen (vs. Cardinals) are the even higher-end version of these pass-catchers.
WEEK 8 STANDARD RANKINGSQBs | RBs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers
Rondale Moore (@ Vikings), Curtis Samuel and Terry McLaurin (@ Colts), Jakobi Meyers (@ Jets), Allen Lazard (@ Bills), if active, and Robert Woods (@ Texans) are still worth starting despite neutral-to-poor matchups. The targets are usually there for these guys, and in PPR leagues, having that solid floor is huge. You might have higher-upside alternatives, and if you feel like you’ll need big points more than “safe” points, you can swap them, but don’t get greedy. Marquise Goodwin (vs. Giants) and Donovan Peoples-Jones (vs. Bengals) also fit into this group.
WEEK 8 FANTASY PICKS: Sleepers | Busts | Start ’em, sit ’em
Going much deeper, Terrace Marshall Jr. (@ Falcons), Trent Sherfield (@ Lions), Nico Collins (vs. Titans), Tre’Quan Smith (vs. Raiders), Mack Hollins (@ Saints), and Olamide Zaccheaus (vs. Panthers) could find their way into some lineups. Again, we wouldn’t play any of these guys over the receivers mentioned above, but between their matchups and/or target share, they have some boom-or-bust appeal.
