For example, both Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4 had perks unlocked by leveling up and purchasing them with skill points. This typical RPG level up system was prominent in both installments, but Far Cry 5 has slightly diverged from this method. Now, to unlock perk points, players have to complete various challenges.

These perk challenges are divided into four categories: Assault perks, World perks, Guns for Hire perks, and Hunting perks. Completing a challenge from any of these categories rewards players with 1-4 perk points that can then be distributed to unlock the desired perks. Below is a way to unlock perks in each category:

Assault Perks

(1-4 perk points) Complete Kill Challenges – examples include 10 SMG kills or 20 arrow kills

(1 perk point) – Run 10 people over

(2 perk points) Throwable Kills – Required numbers of knives, molotovs, dynamite, or grenade kills.

(3 perk points) – Perk-related kills – examples include four Death from Above kills or three Saboteur kills

(4 perk points) – Killing 5 enemies that are 150m away.

World Perks

(2 perk points) – Miscellaneous tasks including consuming homeopathics, long distances in the wingsuit, or saving hostages.

(3 perk points) Co-op – play for 60 minutes

Guns for Hire Perks

(2 perk points) – Kills with Grace, Cheeseburger the bear, Jess Black, Hurk, Adelaide, or Sharky

(3 perk points) – Kills with fighters, Boomer the dog, or Peaches the dog.

Hunting Perks

Perk Points are available for hunting a set amount of every animal in the game. The below options provide players with the largest number of points.

(3 perk points) – Catching Paddlefish and Sturgeon

(3 perk points) – Skinning eagles, grizzly bears, cougars, moose, bison, or Caribou

Players may also notice that skins are no longer used for crafting, which may disappoint some, but they are still a nice cash crop. Another method to get Perk points also includes raiding Prepper Stashes. These stashes are highlighted on the map with a diamond icon and grants players perk points and a nice wad of cash.

Some players who love the longstanding franchise may be less than ecstatic with this divergence from the standard system, but for the most part, it seems like an interesting and harmless change to the game. It is also worth noting that Far Cry 5 remains similar to previous installments in a number of ways, such as being able to be beaten in 5 minutes like Far Cry 4.

Now that the wait for Far Cry 5 is over, gamers may look forward to its season pass after beating the game. If the story to Far Cry 5 isn’t wild or exotic enough for gamers, the season pass promises Vietnam, zombies, and space as DLC.

Far Cry 5 is will launch on March 27 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
