By hitting ‘Advanced Settings’ and selecting a terrain and size, players can then type in (or copy and paste) an 11-digit seed number for a generated map that looks good. Because of the nearly limitless combinations, there are many undiscovered maps the community has yet to review. But, for now, these are the best maps.
Note: Occasionally a patch will change the map seeding and corresponding maps. This information is current as of patch 0.8.1. Also, hunting locations are randomized with every reload, so hit “Restart Map” if there are too few hunting spots.
194ECE255F2 - Lowland Lakes - Large
Of all the maps on this list, it’s the one with the least resources. But it remains an excellent map because of the large flat area to build in surrounded by lakes. It’s easy to defend and the easiest of these maps to build on with so few obstacles. Once players get ahold of some cows, they’ll be able to pay for the gold and coal required to progress from the traders.
9E88D3361EE - Lowland Lakes - Large
This remains a popular map among veterans of the game because the only entrance to this peninsula is an easily defended area to the north. Normally, that indicates a small area, but this location has enough to fit a thriving population living in desirable homesteads. Take advantage of the fishing to make up for the missing sand and coal.
0CE297258E6 - Lowland Lakes - Medium
This is one of the few Lowland Lakes locations that has most of the resources. Besides coal (easily producible later on in the game), it has everything along with the usual fishing spots and ease of defense. By getting the clay nearby, players can trade to get more of whatever they’re missing.
304050607FF - Idyllic Valley - Medium

With at least a little of every important resource, this is one of the best maps in the Idyllic Valley thanks to some superior fishing. By making enough gold, players can shore up their defenses and buy weapons from traders. The iron is admittedly light (two mines with only three digits each), but it’s a good start.
586CC23A66C - Alpine Valleys - Large
The biggest pain about mountain maps is the difficulty to build on them. This map provides all of the resources and places them in a nice area to build and even a few fishing spots. Willow and medicinal roots will require trading to acquire, but with so much iron to dig up, players should have the clout to buy them in bunches.
978E6F3BDA9 - Alpine Valleys - Medium
The southern portion of the starting area has so many minerals in the mountains with a convenient area to build just above it. The medicinal roots are non-existent and there is only one willow location, but the convenience of the resources outweighs the negatives. There are some fishing and hunting areas to establish a regular food source.
6B777D3E168 - Alpine Valleys - Medium
This is the map seed to use when needing a good size build area without the lack of stones. It’s a mountain area that isn’t so steep that players need to flatten the entire thing; there are even areas to fish. When prioritizing the buildings, be sure to get the mines up early to purchase medical roots, clay, and willows.
79699E253CE - Lowland Lakes - Medium
RELATED: Farthest Frontier: How to Repair Buildings
This is one of only a handful of maps that has every resource. The downside is that the resources are light and a bit spread out and the main area has several lakes to build around, but the advantage of never needing the trader for anything is invaluable.
3B5ACC252FC - Lowland Lakes - Large
With every resource possible, the main selling point of this map is the mountain to the southwest. It has so much iron in it that players will never need to search elsewhere. The map feels mountainous with so much stone yet there are plenty of fishing spots.
1FA0A262DE6 - Idyllic Valley - Medium
No surprises here; this map is the favorite for speed runners and hardcore gamers alike. The resources aren’t only all present, but present in a very tight area. The map cut off to the southwest after a large building area, so players can easily use the lakes and mountains to defend a massive settlement.
